KIND WORDS FROM KIND FOLKS

“Larry Hinkle weaves real magic with An Hour Before Dark – an interwoven collection of dark tales of time travel, cosmic horror, and heroism. Powerful, inventive, and deeply weird. Highly recommended!”

“The stories in Larry Hinkle's terrific An Hour Before Dark form a labyrinth whose branching corridors connect to one another at unexpected points in unexpected ways. You should reconsider boarding that flight, or stopping at that service station, or setting out on that path through the wilderness. But it's probably too late for that, and soon you're going to discover that the United States number more than you remember, that writers whose every book you'd swear you read don't exist, that there are creatures that don't need eyes to follow you. Keep going: the light from the two moons should be enough to guide you on your way.”
“
“Larry Hinkle makes short fiction cool again. One of the strongest writers in the field. Get excited when you see his name.”

“Larry Hinkle takes his readers on a labyrinthian cosmic walkabout where nothing is solid underfoot and absolutely nothing is safe. Fair warning: the narrative switchbacks along The Eris Ridge Trail are razor sharp and utterly mind-bending, so pack a compass before diving in, because you may never escape its pages.”
“
“Hinkle doesn’t just twist reality in The Eris Ridge Trail, he obliterates it, tossing his characters (and readers) into a supernatural blender that will take them through a maze of crashing dimensions filled with enough monsters and madness to tear his fictional world—and the minds of those lost within—to bloody ribbons. Enter at your own risk!”
“
“The Eris Ridge Trail has no damn right to contain as much as it does. It's a story that begins with a sinister maze, then portal-shunts into a labyrinth of badly behaved realities, traversed by well-behaved dogs and their reluctant humans. There are monsters and mysteries, and stars that shine darker than their alien skies. Hinkle has performed some mad origami of the imagination, and I am here for every fold and tuck.”

“Larry Hinkle’s The Space Between is an everyman’s collection of uncanny twisted little tales exploring the weird in corn fields, quarries, quarks, and other creepy corners of the world. With a voice that is irreverent, unexpected, and delightfully macabre, Hinkle is an author to watch. Go on. Step into the tunnel. What could possibly go wrong?”
PHILIP FRACASSI
Author of Boys in the Valley
“
“The Space Between is a collection of cosmic and comedic tales that are as beautiful as they are unnerving. Hinkle is not simply an author: he’s a consummate storyteller.”

“Gory, inventive, and blisteringly funny, Larry Hinkle’s The Space Between is a sit-up-and-take-notice kind of debut. Killer clowns, sentient garbage dumps, and evil imaginary friends abound, as does horror, humor, and a whole lot of heart. The Space Between is definitely one you’ll want to make space on your shelf for!”

Larry Hinkle is the least famous writer you’ve never heard of. A copywriter living with his wife and two doggos in Cincinnati, when he's not writing stories that scare people into peeing their pants, he writes ads that scare people into buying adult diapers, so they’re not caught peeing their pants.
He's an active member of the HWA (his short stories made the preliminary Stoker ballot in 2020 and 2022); a graduate of Fright Club and Crystal Lake’s Author’s Journey short story and novella programs; an HWA mentee; and a survivor of the Borderlands Writers Bootcamp.
